Off To Cyprus – with a bag full of philosophies…

About 3 months ago I decided to move to Cyprus. I went to see Mark Vurnum in November for some consultancy and kind of really liked the place…

Especially the fact that it was sunny and warm in November. :-)

So while I was getting ready I realised that most of our life is based around accumulating things, and I was about to do the opposite – get rid of things, simplify and declutter. Great feeling. Sold my car, gave up a storage unit and gave away all the stuff in there…

Truth is you think you’ll miss that stuff but you actually don’t – at least I don’t. Tom calls it ‘mental ram’ – stuff that takes some of your attention and thinking time up everyday. Every property you own, every thing you possess… it has a ‘maintenance trail’.

I also want to share a statistic regarding how ‘happiness’ and ‘income’ are related. Below $60,000 US there is a direct connection between happiness and income, but guess what happens above? (watch the video :-) to find out more)

Moving out here is showing to my students and friends that you can do what you want if you go after it. The internet lifestyle – is real.

keep your dreams – pursue them

to your success – if this is work, then let’s have some more of it

Daniel

PS: btw, people asked me about the music at the end of the video. It’s Peppino D’Agostino. Check him out. He is amazing.

PPS: let me know your thoughts, please comment on this post.

    • Daniel Says:

you scaring my Joff! I had 2 mentoring sessions today and they both wanted to sell their houses after my ’simplify your life’ talk…. lol. Send my love to Aileen. Daniel

  • Gavin McCoy Says:

What a great message Daniel, enjoy your break.

High Wycombe to Cyprus eh Daniel.
Seems to be where the entrepeneurs hang out.
    Andy Shaw just moved there.

Anything must be better than HW in the winter..
Is there any skiing in Cyprus? Now that would ne Nirvana.

    Best of luck with it

    Phillip

    • Daniel Says:

believe it or not… there is actually skiing in Cyprus… the Olympus mountains have snow until March! so when are you coming? :-) Daniel

  • Bernard Says:

    Heyyy Daniel

    Congrats. You’ll love it!!!

You gave me Tim Ferriss’ “The 4 Hour Work Week” as a parting gift in November 2009 – thank you soooo much for that.

I immediately started to implement the principles of that book in my life and I have to tell you it is GREAT.

    Scary at first but great.

I currently live in sunny South Africa and would probably be here until the end of the World Cup Football (July 2010). Then back in the UK for the summer and then off to Australia to visit friends and family there form October onwards. I will probably end up in South East Asia after that as I love Thai food and I only here good things about the place.

I now literally live out of a suitcase and on my laptop and this allows me to go wherever my whim takes me while my living expenses are about 1/5th of what it use to be.

    Point being this:
You DO save a hell of a lot of time and money (or “Mind Ram” – I love that term…) by NOT having all the excess baggage and earthly possessions we believe we need or should have.

This is probably THE greatest benefit of having a non-geographic internet business.

Those who can should try it.

    • Daniel Says:

Bernard, thanks for the comment and well done – I know it’s scary! but good… I will send some photos from here. Well done for taking action. I am worried at times if it is the right way – but as I see most people do the opposite – it give me confidence that it is…. It’s great! Let me know what you are up to. all the best to you and keep in touch. Daniel

  • John Firth Says:

That’s my Danny, the true Danny, thinking about what life really means and has in store. No good running past the finishing line and leaving your friend and things you value at the touch line.

    • Daniel Says:

Hey buddy – good to hear from you. How is life treating you? has been a while. Love to the boys… they are great. Daniel

  • Gary Says:

    Hi Daniel,

What a great video, very inspirational. Well done for being a “man if action” and taking the bull by the horn and getting on with it. In life if you do not get on wit it, why should anybody else. I have learnt so much from you over the years and intend to learn a lot more.

I purchased the “4 Hour Week” only last year, completed it and have not followed some of the ideas in it, and I must say it has been very, very helpful. I am working more towards my life being more financially free and am enjoying the good and the bad experiences.

I will be keeping in touch with you and would be really good if you were to do a training course out there (change of scenery), as this would be fun.

Will keep checking your blog for any updates and I wish you well. Will se you back in London.

    Regards

    Gary

  • Pete Craig Says:

    Hey Daniel…

You are so right, I made the decision to move to Cyprus in March 2009 and moved out in June 2009…

Sold everything in the UK and feel so much more relaxed and free from all the things we ‘think we need’

Hope to catch up with you soon : )

    • Daniel Says:

woah – that is awesome. I didn’t know you did that… you know sometimes I look at the ‘Financial Freedom Crowd’ and realise they created another ‘Rat Race’ for themselves. Isn’t that ironic. lol. Let’s catch up Pete – where are you? Daniel

  • Licia Says:

Well, Coco Chanel said “less is more”, then Gianni Versace said” more is more”, now Daniel el Wagner says “less is less”! How Egyptian!

Love the video on the plane and Lieve red hair and black big ring in the background!

Letting go of possessions is like letting go of your identity! Something that you have carefully crafted during the years but once you have done it you realize that you always had that choice but you were always too scared to do anything about it!

Enjoy your time in the Mediterranean sea with your sweet Lieve! A word of advise about the sun: less is the new more! :) )

    • Daniel Says:

Excellent, Licia – always a word of wisdom from the world of high fashion…. :-) I agree regarding feeling you losing your identity when you give up stuff – but that feeling is not ‘real’. You are defined by your ‘being’ not your ‘having’ and as Tony Robbins said once – ‘no-thing will make you happy’. Take care enjoy hubby’s birthday – don’t eat too many cakes. See you soon. Daniel

    • Bernard Says:

      Licia

When we leave this world we leave with nothing. So we may as well jump ahead and “de-clutter” now.

I follow a very simple rule. I never buy anything unless it’s going to make me money or save me money.

Example – if it’s not an asset (as defined by Robert Kiyosaki) like a cash-flow positive property or a domain name I wouldn’t buy it unless it would save me money in the medium term by owning it like clothes or a laptop. Everything else can be rented or I am probably better off without.

Come to think of it, it looks like I have become the ultimate consumer… :)

  • Darren Todd Says:

    Hey there Daniel,

Super cool video as always and this episode of your life now I can easily relate myself we are implying similar rules ourselves I thought your readers might enjoy.

Life can become very clutterd so now if there is anything we haven’t used in three months….bang! it’s sold on ebay.

Less is more we no longer have junk in our lifes and allows us to focus clearly .

I am half way through reading the four hour week myself and have already sold our second car amongst other items also including our house !

Radical yes ! but given that is was a non income making liability we are using the equity
to build a profit pulling property portfolio.

We no longer have a massive personal mortgage instead we have lots of income generating assets on by to let propertys.

I take a amazing amount of strenght from your training and intime cannot wait to join your platinum club ….lets hope it’s real soon.

Whenever I struggle I think to myself if he can do it whats stopping me!

PEOPLE STOP AND LISTEN to what this man has to say and take the crazy offer on the gold training….follow me with your internet buddies on the path to creating a content life which is rich in love and freedom.

Hope to speak real soon, thanks the awesome interview and enjoy a cold Keo and hot Halloumi, tomatoes and pitta bread in that cyprus sun!

    Warm regards

    Darren Todd

    • Daniel Says:

Darren, this is awesome! You are amazing. I know there is some fear involved with doing these things that most people don’t. but there is a rule – I think it was Mark Twain, who said, watch what everyone else is doing and then do the opposite! Well done for ’simplifying’ your life. You will not regret it. Looking forward to seeing you at Platinum soon! I had to mentees out here in Paphos yesterday and they told me how much Platinum helped them in their LIVES, not just internet marketing – well – that’s what you get when you get involved with a guy who spent 20 years meditating on the meaning of it all…. lol. all the best, Darren. To your success, Daniel

  • Nahid Says:

    Daniel,

You have always been an inspiration to me since the first time I met you about four years ago.

You probably don’t remember me, but I always manage to get to any seminar you speak at!! And you know what? You will remember me when I make my mark in internet marketing :) Enjoy your new lifestyle. Hopefully I’ll join the club very soon!

  • Andy Lindsay Says:

Great news and as always very inspiring, I am also planing a similar move. I gave up my car 18 months ago and just rent occaisionally. I can’t wait for the day when I’m on the plane and its not just for a holiday.

    • Daniel Says:

You won’t look back, Andrew. it’s almost like we are all hypnotised to ‘buy into’ a certain concept of living – unfortunately not one that is healthy or conducive to our own happines…

I am sure you’ll make the move when you are ready and things are aligned. When the time is right – it will not be a big thing at all.

      all the best

      Daniel

  • Paul Says:

    Daniel

Inspiring as ever. How did you decide what to let go and what to keep and what were the most important things that you kept?

    Good Luck

    Paul

    • Daniel Says:

mmh – excellent question. Haven’t really thought about it that much. Looking at it if there are things I couldn’t even remember owning and haven’t used for a year or more – they had to go.

What I kept is what I use and need on a daily basis for my life and business. which is – amazingly – very little.

I used to own 5 different printers – all the way up to the A3+ colour laser…. cost me over 2 grand and the consumables are expensive as well and the bastard broke down twice a year! talk about mental ram! :-) now I just send the pdfs to a company who deal with all the headaches…

so simple – and cheap! and my mind is free to wander into higher realms…

that is just ONE example, but really helped me.

all the best and see you soon Paul

      Daniel

  • Andrew Bridgewater Says:

Daniel – Paul and I are still buzzing after spending much of the day with you and your lovely lady yesterday. Thank you so much for your generosity!

Your words “people think life is a story of accumulation but true joy is a process of simplification” have really resonated with me.

Financial and life freedom are within reach of so many who currently feel trapped in jobs they dislike, living where they don’t want to live.

Really looking forward to my first Platinum Group meeting in a couple of weeks.

    Andrew

    • Daniel Says:

Andrew, I had a great day – talking to you both was very inspiring!

I am also looking forward to working with you and I am sure Paul will join us in Platinum once he spent a day with us at the ‘Traffic and Conversion Summit’ on the 10th April…

all the best and see you next Sunday

      Daniel

  • Sara McAleavey Says:

    Hi Daniel

Many congratulations re your move, way to go!

I first met you in your flat in Amersham when you conducted a 2 day boot camp, almost a year ago. You have been very inspiring and have an amazing personality which drew me to you and your learning. I don’t usually write many comments but felt compelled to wish you and Lieve well for your next ‘adventure’. You make a lovely couple.

    Kind regards
    Sara McAleavey
    xx

PS. Am I allowed just one ‘shiny object’! . . . I’m calling it my ‘chanel handbag fund’. Just one thing won’t hurt hey!
    All the best

    • Daniel Says:

Thanks Sara, and I will pass your love on to Lieve :-) also thank you for your trust to join us again on Platinum with your husband.

I am looking forward to meeting all of you this coming Sunday for the meeting.

Regarding your ‘chanel’ fund? ok – go on then…

      ;-)

      all the best

      Daniel

  • John Williams Says:

This is great Daniel, very inspiring. I’ll feature your video on my site as an example of people living their own unique version of The Rich Life.

    • Daniel Says:

Thanks for your feedback buddy! this is excellent… is amazing… when I went there in november I wrote this: http://www.danielwagner.com/2009/11/loving-it-in-cyprus/

cool – thanks for the support! how is the book launch going? Let me know how I can help to promote it.

      Daniel

PS: remember when we met first time in November 2007? Not sooo long ago – but lots has changed – mainly we have changed!

  • Keith Watson Says:

    Hi Daniel,
Your posting has taken me back as I spent many happy times with friends of ours who lived in a small place called Phinikaria (overlooking a damn) near to Yermasoya which is just north of Limassol. We first met them in the Pegasus Beach Hotel in Limassol and strangely they now live in Marlow Bottom – close to High Wycombe. When I was working in Muscat, Oman we used to stop off in Cyprus on the way home. Aaahh! Great memories.
I just hope that you make it ok to the Platinum day on Sunday as I woke up this morning with an awesome idea. After my adrenalin producing first webinar with Adam and then on to your high octane webinar last night I went to bed with my head buzzing. My sub conscious obviously was working overtime during the night as a great idea popped out. Tell you about it on Sunday. Cheers for now

  • Gary Says:

    Hi Daniel,
