Why Practice does NOT make perfect (and other lies)

For someone who is not too keen on water it seems I am spending a whole lot of time on it… LOL. I went down to Bath to meet with James and Licia last weekend. I had my daughter with me and finally managed to meet up with Martin Roberts (of BBC fame) and his family. He asked me months ago to help him with the internet marketing of his website and courses and invited me to spend time on his barge in Bath…

We had a great time but I couldn’t help recording a ‘lesson of life’ video for you. :-)

This one is about lag time. You see (and that is something I learned from Jim Rohn) what you do in life has normally a delayed effect or lag time before you see the consequences. Needless to say if you improve e.g. your eating habits it will be sometime before you actually get the benefit. And of course the same is true the other way round. Strangely enough though in business people expect overnight results…

When I was steering the 65 foot barge the time of making the adjustment to actually the boat responding reminded of that…

Two more things came to mind… I didn’t know that you were driving on the right side of the river, not the left and everything in life and business is better when you know the rules. (you might choose not to play by them, but knowing them is a good thing most of the times). Lastly I realised when we came to a lock that most things in life and business require a team and that it is important to play and work together – even (and I am talking to the lone wolves out there – you know who you are!) if it just to be able to share the successes and have a little winge sometimes…

to your success

Daniel

PS: By the way, before I forget – Practice makes PERMANENT, not PERFECT. If you got a bad teacher and practice the wrong move, you’ll never be perfect… ;-) so choose your teachers carefully ….

    Hello Daniel.

Wow finally after all this time – we see he real you in person.
Your video was very pertinent – It took me a log time, learning the ropes, tripping and faltering to finally realize, sometimes or many times its just as important who you decide to follow and emulate and learn from.

There is a second positive !! :) Martin Roberts ( I did’nt know you had a Barge ! – Fantastic!) is in safe hands when it comes to Internet Marketing.
Oh and by the way – I love your City – Bath is one beautiful place

    Many thanks Daniel.

    All the best

Great stuff Daniel – brief, light and fun – with a ‘reminding’ message. Thanks for the nod and smile it created. The PS is so true!

    Hi Daniel,

Loved the little clip about steering the narrow boat – how weird that. We were moored up in Bath only a couple of weeks ago by Pultney Bridge – having taken our boat from Devizes. It would have been really strange to have bumped into you!!

Really excited – as have been accepted onto Dan Bradburys Extreme Business Coaching course in a couple of weeks. Once this is done – and I have got to grips with putting a squeeze and ask page up. (Alun Richards was helping) Hopefully will soon be ready to start making products!!!

    Regards,

    Karen

    PS Website will be moonstonecoaching.com
when I can sort out what I am doing!!!!

    • Daniel Says:

Hi Daniel. Thanks again for a fun but ‘make you think’ video.

Quick question are use using a Flip HD for your vids or another camera?

    Cheers!

    Hi Daniel,

What I love about you, and what first drew me to you, is that you are a ‘real’ human being. You are approachable and there is a warmth about you, which is very welcoming.

I love the post. You are making a simple yet profound statement in a fun way. Thanks. Keep it up.

    Warm regards,

    Arike

Well done Daniel – we’ve been doing a bit of Canal Boating recently on our friends boat in Stratford Upon Avon…it’s just so peaceful isn’t it. All the usual jokes about Captain Pugwash and Roger the Cabin Boy and that Master….what was his name?

    :D

    Hugs

    Hi Daniel,
I would appreciate your help and advise regarding squeeze page creation tools and linking it to the autoresponder.
A few weeks ago your assistant contacted me and booked me in for a consultation session with you. I onfirmed everything and on the day tried to log in to have a teleconference. I emailed, phoned. There was no response.

    Hi Daniel ,
Looks like fun ,I love your little life lesson clips!
Its so true about the right team. The 3 pillars of any Business are Mission, leadership and equally important the Team.
I like to share a couple of Rich Dad tips ,
“Just to make money is not a strong enough mission. The mission of a Business should be to fill the customer’s need”.

“If the Mission is clear and strong, the business will weather the trials every business goes through during its first 10 years,When a business gets big and it forgets its mission…the business begins to die”.
    Kind regards

Just popped over to check out what you are up to after recommendation from Richard Hill (Uk SEO Consultant) in the Alex Jeffreys MWA2.0 forum where I am also a student.

    Hi Daniel,

I found you by a comment by Rich Hill (just above me) a fellow student in the MWA 2.0 forum, so I thought I had better drop by and check out your Blog :)

I especially liked your ‘ Video Clip’ nice analogy to taking the right direction. You were in my home City of Bath, which I do miss as I now live in Surrey :(

Just checked out Rich’s video squeeze, did that really only take 3 hours?……… going to grill him on that information too, certainly kept it quiet……

    Take care

    Sean

    Hi Daniel

I love the way you make it all look like having fun messing about on the river and just playing life – but in that kind of really serious way. Thanks for all you’ve done to help me move forward in my life – I am just taking a breather at the moment and waiting for the tide to turn. So its still all about the water but Ive gone a bit maritime.

    I do love cliched metaphor.

Lots of love to you, Licia, Lieve and that lovely James man.

    Love from Kate

Have some great ideas penned out for the webinar and its coming together, even have some guest speakers stacked up… still not 100% sure which way to take it… just need more time… I’m in Berlin next week for 5 days(Day Job)… fantastic city.. and i know it will give me some great time to reflect on what’s happening and get my head together and focus on what I HAVE to do.

I’m going to record the videos next week for the importing idea we discussed whilst in Berlin.

    Daniel,
You are absolutely right! It took me too long to realize how important following and learning from the best is! When you do this, it also becomes easier to recognize who the experts are in any given field. -Norene
